Alice Katherine “Katie” Morphew, 85, Plainfield, died May 12, 2007. She was born on April 13, 1922 in Plainfield, Indiana to the late Herbert Master and Maude Katherine (Mendenhall) Hunter.
Mrs. Morphew was a charter member of Gasburg Baptist Church and worked as a cashier/auditor for the Indianapolis West 70 Truck Plaza for 12 years, retiring in 1980. She and her husband had lived in Zephyrhills, FL for 17 years, prior to returning to Indiana. In addition, she was a member of the Democratic Women’s Club and the Wetzel Trace Garden Club. She enjoyed gardening, bicycling, reading, and crafts.
She was preceded in death by her son, Eddie Morphew; siblings, George M. Hunter, Herbert M. Hunter, Ralph Hunter and Maxine Fitzgerald; three grandchildren, Kelly Christopher, Brian Hogue, and David Hogue.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years, James Alford Morphew; sons, David L. Morphew (Linda) of Mooresville, James D. Morphew (Sharon) of Brownsburg; daughters, Jeanie Hogue-Payton (Hershel) of Mooresville, Dottie Christopher of Indianapolis; sister, Martha Spoon of Mooresville; 13 Grandchildren; 14 Great Grandchildren.
Friends may call on Tuesday, May 15, 2007 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Carlisle & Son Funeral Chapel, Mooresville, Indiana. Graveside services will begin at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 16, 2007, in Maple Hill Cemetery, Plainfield. Pastor John G. Dunaway will officiate. Memorial Contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
